I have had a fabulous week of sailing with Ingela and Mats. This was my first sailing experience and a last minute decision for me but what a great one! I loved every moment of it!
We joined the Elin Alida (Elin Suffering according to the computer translator) in Bequia and after gathering some provisions set out towards Canouan. We were very surprised by a ”bump” before starting. Another boat had touched our side but luckily there was no damage. The first day was rough seas with gusty winds and some very heavy rain, making it difficult to see very far but we had very trustworthy captains who made it all seem very simple!
From Canouan we went to Tobago Cays which were simply stunning. Snorkelling with turtles and a small shark and meeting iguanas and a tortoise on one island were highlights. We also enjoyed a viewing of ”Pirates of the Carribean” while looking out at one of the real islands in the film.
Mats tried to teach me some ”Swenglish” and we set off at ”half past et” for Union Island to clear customs and immigration before spending the night under a starry sky in a beautiful bay.
Saturday saw a very early start and a long day of sailing to Grenada. I spent many hours steering and reached 5 knots but Mats got 6 knots so he won the cold beer at the end of the day. Marie and I spent one final night aboard in Prickly Bay before I had to catch my plane to Tobago.
Thankyou Mats and Ingela for a jette jette jette bro experience. My new dream now is to have a sailing boat in Australia and then I can come to visit you in Stockholm!
